Mount Adams
25 July 2003
Possibly the most photographad mountain ever run around. We had five people taking pictures. This webpage has pictures from three of those folks with digital cameras.
Run Statistics
Distance: 34 Miles
Elevation Gain: 6000
High Point: Sunrise 8300 feet
Run Time: 12-14 hours
Our route. Start at Coldsprings and run CCW. Sunrise is the high point at 8300 feet. Then we drop down onto the Klickitat glacier and cross the big Muddy River. We enter the Valley of Wonders and work our way up to the second high point at 7700 ft. Then we drop down to the north side of the mountain and pick up the PCT. From there it is pretty much smooth sailing on in.
Click here for really fun movie that Kendall took. You may want to copy the whole CD-ROM to your hard disk so that it plays fast enough.
Now we head down the Klickitat glacier.
At this point the danger is over. There is a little more route finding and a lot more distance but it is relatively straightforward from here on out.
On each mountian we place a memorial plaque to Scott
GPS Coordinates N 46 12.601' W 121 26.290' elev: 6885
The second half of the run is at about 6000 feet. It is much more level and a wonderful trail in comparison to the East side.
We had one or two exciting stream crossing in the last 10 miles. You probably would not want to do these crossing at night.
The Finish of Day 1!
